The Milford Track is in the heart of Fjordland and is probably New Zealand's most famous Great Walk. It is 53.5 km over 4 days with 1070m in elevation gain. Our first visitors from Canada (Jennie & Mike) were planning to do it- so Brad and I joined them. It is really popular and we had to book it over 4 months in advance. We were really lucky with the weather- it normally rains 2 out of every 3 days in that area- and we had 3 days of sun and one day of rain. But the one day of rain was enough- it was the heaviest rain we've ever experienced. The waterfalls were spectacular though! Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures that last day. We were so soaked! Thank goodness there are nice huts for people to sleep in and cook & eat in- tenting in that much rain wouldn't be fun!

You guys are definitely lucky it didn't downpour the whole time. Your pictures are nice, some are a bit over exposed but you got some nice shots. Looks like you had a few tough slogs uphill. It appears to be a beautiful area though, the uphill is worth it. I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out.
ReplyDeleteI tried to fix a few pictures. It is a nice area- and although the elevation gain wasn't huge- 4 days is pretty long (we were sore!)
ReplyDeleteWOW! did you really hike 54 km in 4 days???!?! That is amazing Cath! THe pictures are beautiful, i think my favourite is the last one with tiny little you standing by that huge tree... its cute! PS. Loved talking with you today :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt was great to talk to you too Laura!! Thank goodness for Skype!
ReplyDeleteI talked to a girl I used to work with and when she did the Milford Track many years ago ; it poured so hard the track became a river and they had to be "roped-over" the water by their Sherpa!!! So you had wonderful weather for sure.
ReplyDeleteGreat Talking to you on Skype!!!
Love You
