Harper River Pinnacles
This Saturday was a grey day in Christchurch, but it was sunny and beautiful by the Harper river- about 1.5 hours drive away. It's an easy walk along the Harper river to pinnacles. The Pinnacles are made from geologically young rock (probably 3–7 million years old) consisting of alluvial sands and gravels. Erosion by rain water washes away the exposed soil and forms the
pinnacle shapes. Pretty neat!

So Neat! I have never heard of alluvial sands and gravel?? Only an Engineer would know what those were.

Those pinnacles look pretty cool Cath. Wouldn't want to land on any of those, ouch. You have got some very beautiful pictures and I just love looking through all of them! Can't wait to see you this summer :)
ReplyDeleteYou look great! and really happy. Love the pictures... hope you are doing well!
ReplyDeleteThanks guys! I am always really amazed by how many different geographic features there are in this small country (all of New Zealand fits into Saskatchewan about 5 times!) I'm also really grateful for all the opportunities to get into the wilderness!
