Today I went to an orientation for new Civil Engineering post grad students. I was fairly surprised to be one of only two females out of about 45 people. The department seems quite organized, and everyone was friendly.
This evening we went to the driving range. There's lots around, and one really close to our house. (Brad is still deciding which golf club to get a membership at).

Isn't Brad a lucky guy to be around all those driving ranges and golf courses. I'm not surprised at all that you're one of only two female grad students, that was exactly how it was for me at the U of A. I think women are definitely still a huge minority around the world in grad studies in all areas of engineering and I think U of S was a bit of an exception. I'm glad everyone was friendly. Looks like the sun is shining and the weather is beautiful out there!
